Centering young Black girls aged 11 and up, the AFRO Empowering Girls Program runs year-round in Kitchener-Waterloo to foster resilience, self-discovery, and sisterhood. Navigating the crucial bridge between childhood and adolescence brings heavy social pressures, as Black youth regularly encounter systemic biases and Eurocentric beauty standards that undermine their confidence. To counter this, our weekly gatherings offer a positive, culturally rich environment filled with creative expression, identity workshops, academic support, and honest conversations led by inspiring Black women mentors. Through this experience, participants uncover their innate leadership talents, build unbreakable self-esteem, form lasting friendships, and step forward as bold self-advocates who know their worth and potential.
