Mona was our lifeline during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mona made sure we had hand sanitizers and face masks, delivering them to our homes. She continuously checked on us, ensuring we were all okay. Mona is like the daughter never had; she makes me feel important, wanted, and loved. Thank you, Mona, for everything. Without AFRO I wouldn't know where I would be.”

Muslimo

AFRO has made communication so much easier. With the resources that I was given, I was able to write a letter in English. I am very grateful for how helpful the organization has been”.

When I needed help with the ODSP process, AFRO was there to lend a hand. They helped me with so many services, but most of all they helped me settle into my community. Thank you, AFRO!”

Halima

AFRO has been a great support for our group and the refugee family we are supporting. AFRO have been working with us for over four years and the group's assistance has been invaluable. During that time Mona has been our primary contact. She is very committed to the people she helps, often going the “extra mile”, such as helping with shopping. AFRO liaises with service agencies, especially Family and Children Services; connects us with cultural and religious communities; and helps find counselling and housing. As a black, Muslim woman Mona brings a valuable perspective to her work in this community, and I continue to learn from her and AFRO.”

Mary S

Since discovering AFRO, I have truly found my community. AFRO has been a tremendous help to me, and I always look forward to coming here and enjoying time with everyone. The support I’ve recieved has been invaluable, making me feel wanted and appreciated. It was by sheer luck that stumbled upon AFRO. I happened to be walking around, not knowing what to expect, when came across this amazing community. From that moment on, AFRO has become a significant part of my life. If it weren’t for AFRO, I don't think I would still be here.”

AFRO has made integrating into my community and other communities, so much easier. I now have a home and a local grocery store to do my shopping, thanks to the resources I was provided with. I have received interpreting services for places such as the passport, doctor’s and lawyer’s office. I am glad to have had access to so many services through AFRO. They continue to be there for me and my granddaughter whenever we need help. I cannot express how much Mona and her organization has helped us. May Allah bless her”

Mako

I have been connected with the Afro community from the beginning. I am a blind man and I live with my elderly mother, so integration wasn’t as easy for me. Mona and her organization have helped me countless times. I was able to receive interpretation services at the Ontario Service centre to get my health card. I was able to sponsor my wife and kids through an immigration lawyer that I was connected with through AFRO. I am very happy for the existing and continuous support I get from AFRO. Thank you, Mona”.
